Facebook Link 1.0 finally released!
The social networking power is the recent tendency of online marketing. aheadWorks Co. always swims with the current and today we are glad to announce a long-expected release of Facebook Magento Link.
According to comScore, Facebook is the 2nd most-trafficked social media site and the 6th most-trafficked website in the world what makes Facebook an attractive advertising platform for many business owners. aheadWorks gives you such a possibility to connect your store with one of the most popular social media websites.
Facebook Link makes it easier for customers to invite their friends to your store as there is no need to send emails – posts like “Hey! I’ve just purchased a great stuff at (your store link)” appear automatically on the customer’s wall. You can set the module up so that if a customer logs in your store using Facebook account, every time this person makes a purchase, a post about the order or store is automatically left on the wall. There may be not only the link to your store in the post but the full product title, its price and link to this product.
The high popularity of social networking does you a good turn here – the wall posts can be read not only by the customer’s friends but by any person from 250 million Facebook active users all over the world who can follow the link, get into your store and buy something.
Promoting your store with Facebook Link you have a discernible advantage over those who use traditional online advertising methods because 65 million active users access Facebook through their mobile devices and they are twice active than non-mobile users. You would hardly speak to the hearts of those 65 million in any other way.
A post on the wall with the link to your store or product is not a typical advertisement – it is a personal recommendation, an advice, a piece of news shared with friends which is more reliable and sincere than any attractive offer made by a booster. According to recent investigations two thirds of UK online consumers make a purchase in the result of recommendation from a friend. Make your customers promote your store for you!

This looks very promising. Does this have a way for existing customers to link their Magento profile with their Facebook Profile?
Yes, a person who has accounts in your store and Facebook can login into your store using Facebook link.
@Eugene
Will their order still be placed under their Magento account, even if they login through Facebook and don’t login through their Magento account?
@Jared
Yes, no difference how a customer logs in – the order will be placed. Logging in using Facebook Link just helps to connect Facebook and your Magento store.
@Eugene
I guess what I’m really looking for is where will the order history show up? If someone is already a customer, their orders will show up under their account. But if they come back and login under Facebook their order history will be under a different user? Breaking a customer’s order history into two separate customers can create confusion and show the incorrect lifetime value of a long term customer.
@Jared
Orders history will not be broken. Accounts on your store and Facebook are 2 different accounts. Using “Login with Facebook” just connects the accounts and allows them to “communicate”.
Great module guys! I purchased last week and it works great. Is there a way to add a facebook button to the product page so they can share the item before they purchase it?
Thanks again!
Hello Traci,
This extension only allows wall postings on products purchase. However we are going to create another one with functionality you request.
Thank you.
Hey Artyom,
Will the extension that you described be an update to this current Facebook extension? Or will it be sold separately? I know the previous comment is a bit dated, thank you for reading!
FYI – I found a bug in your javascript – it was breaking internet explorer 6 & 7 :
remove comma after this.onSuccess – it should read:
login: function() {
var request = new Ajax.Request(
this.ajaxUrl+’login’,
{
method:’post’,
onSuccess: this.onSuccess
}
);
},
Hi Phil,
this functionality is temporarily on hold due to significant Facebook limitations which do not allow building good-featured modules. Never the less, we are planning to release one more promotional extension which uses Facebook. Thank you.
Hi Traci,
I’ll pass this to the developers.
Thank you.
Small update:
this is a known issue which will be fixed in the next release. Expect it within 2 weeks.
